The Isle of Man Taekwondo Association is proud to confirm that Creechurch Capital-sponsored Aaron Cook regained his No.1 world ranking at the end of 2013. The under-80kg Isle of Man fighter made the podium in an amazing nine competitions out of 11 in 2013 including five golds.
His first fight for Island was in the Swedish Open in February, where he clinched gold and finished the year with silver in the French Open. He won an incredible 34 bouts out of 40.
The World Taekwondo Federation gives ranking points to top international competitions and the top 6 in each weight category in December 2015 automatically obtain a place in their national team for the Rio Olympics. This rule change was brought in following Aaron’s controversial non-selection for the British team at the London Olympics and to ensure more objectivity in the selection process.
Aaron is based on the Island and splits his time between mentoring local students, training, and competing internationally. He will be flying the three legs competing all over the world this year.
He will defend his double European title in Azerbaijan in May and compete against the top 32 in the world at three Grand Prix this year.
